The Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery has the unique ability to offer services in five subspecialty areas of plastic surgery at individual centers, allowing us to treat the most complex of cases. While we have the ability to offer reconstructive plastic surgery solutions for the entire body at our treatment centers, we also offer standard cosmetic surgery procedures, such as tummy tuck and liposuction. Our Central Texas, Plastic Surgery Center allows us to offer a full range of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments for the entire body, including the abdomen.
Tummy tuck surgery, technically referred to as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen while strengthening the underlying abdominal muscles. If you suffer from a sagging, protruding abdomen, you may be an ideal tummy tuck candidate. Our patients elect to undergo tummy tuck surgery at our Central Texas practice in response to a variety of factors, including:
During a personal consultation, one of our renowned physicians will evaluate your case and help you determine the proper course of treatment.
The tummy tuck procedure at our Central Texas Plastic Surgery Center utilizes liposuction to aid in the removal of excess fat deposits. As opposed to liposuction alone, the addition of the tummy tuck allows for the removal, or excision, of loose, excess abdominal skin.
Tummy tuck surgery begins with the surgeon making an incision from hip to hip slightly above the pubic bone. A subsequent incision is made around the navel to free it from the surrounding skin. Once the incisions have been made, the weak abdominal muscles are tightened using sutures. At this point, the excess fat can be removed using liposuction, which utilizes a cannula (tube-like device) attached to an aspirator (vacuum-like device) to essentially suck out the excess fat. The excess skin is then removed, and the incision closed using sutures, which also aids in the tightening process. The navel is then repositioned and sutured into place. In some cases, additional liposuction may be used to refine the contours of the abdomen. The incision sites are dressed and bandaged; in some cases, a compression garment will also be used. The tummy tuck procedure usually takes between one and five hours, and most patients find they are able to return to their usual routines within two weeks of surgery.
If you have weakened abdominal muscles along with excess skin and fat, and would like to have a flatter, leaner stomach, then a tummy tuck may be ideal for you. Serving Central Texas, the subspecialty centers at Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery offer our surgeons the unique ability to provide advanced reconstructive treatments, as well as cosmetic surgery procedures.
