Splints are used primarily to improve the position and function of your finger, hand or wrist. There are static splints, those designed to immobilize your effected limb or digit, and dynamic splints, those with moving parts like joints, hinges and springs. Positioning splints are designed to correct or prevent deformity and functional splints are designed to improve function.
Splint fabrication is a specialized skill that is vital to the success of rehabilitating the hand after an injury or surgical treatment. After the assessment of a patient's individual function and healing requirements, our therapists determine the most effective splint design and set out to create it using just the right materials. There are a wide number of materials available with varying properties and advantages. Our therapists are familiar with these and are trained to select just the right ones to meet the needs and requirements of each of our patients.
