Hand Injury Central Texas

Helping Hurt Hands and Wrists Heal

The hand is a complex appendage with a myriad of joints, ligaments, tendons, and nerves, all in almost constant use; so it should come as no surprise to learn that hand injuries are quite common. A hand injury can result from any number of scenarios, including trauma or other injury and disease. Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery is able to treat most any hand injury at our Hand Center in Central Texas. The Hand Center at Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery is equipped to handle both adult and pediatric patients (at Dell Children's Medical Center). With a wide range of treatment options available, the Hand Center is able to help nearly any patient suffering from a debilitating hand injury, disease, or other condition. Our physicians have years of training and expertise treating injuries from the fingertips to the shoulder.

Common Hand Injuries We Treat

While the Hand Center at the Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery treats all types of injuries of the hand, wrist, arm, and forearm, the following are a few of the most common hand injuries we treat at our Central Texas center:

  • Flexor Tendon Injuries — These tendons allow you to bend your fingers. Since the tendons are very close to the skin, they are susceptible to injuries such as cuts.
  • Hand/Wrist Fractures — Common at any age, these injuries to the bone of the hand and/or wrist are usually the result of a fall onto an outstretched hand.
  • Wrist Sprains and Dislocations — Also common at any age, sprains and dislocations are usually a result of a fall onto the hand where the wrist is bent in the wrong direction, stretching the ligaments beyond their limits.
  • Extensor Tendon Injuries — These tendons are located on the backside of the hand, attached to muscles in the forearm, allowing you to straighten your wrist, hand, and fingers. Once injured, it will be difficult to make a fist and grasp objects.
  • Nerve Injuries — An injured nerve will result in the lack of sensation or operation of a muscle resulting from stretches, cuts, pressure from inside or outside the body, and any number of other causes.
