View before and after photos As the body ages, the skin loses its natural elasticity; as a result, the breasts can begin to stretch and sag. Pregnancy, nursing, and the effects of gravity can also contribute to changes in the shape of the breasts, as well as in the resiliency of the breast's skin. Thankfully, there is a procedure that can help return your breasts to their youthful state: a breast lift. At the Central Texas, Breast Center of Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, we are able to offer the breast lift to our patients who wish to revitalize their bust. You may be a potential breast lift candidate if you have one or more of the following conditions:
If you contact Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, we will be able to schedule a personal consultation to determine whether breast lift surgery is indeed right for you.
A breast lift, technically referred to as a mastopexy, raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast shape; in some cases, liposuction can be used to remove excess tissue. Repositioning the nipples is also possible and will help the breasts look and feel more youthful.
The breast lift procedure at our Central Texas locations begins like any other, with anesthesia. Once the patient has been anesthetized, the surgeon will begin by making incisions in three locations: under the breast, around the areola, and vertically between the areola and the base of the breast. This technique allows excess skin and tissue to be removed, while elevating the breast. Once the excess skin has been removed, the areola and nipple are repositioned into their new, higher location; if necessary, the areola can be reduced in size at this time as well. The remaining skin is brought together to reshape the natural curves and contours of the breasts. The incisions are then closed using sutures, which will also help to reinforce the new shape and form of the breasts. The procedure requires about one to three hours depending on the patient. As an outpatient procedure, breast lift allows patients to return home for recovery after surgery. Most patients are able to return to their normal routines in about one to two weeks.
While age, gravity, pregnancy, and other factors can adversely affect the form of the breasts, a breast lift can help counter these effects.
