Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure designed to increase the size and shape of the breast, while improving its overall appearance. While there are several techniques for performing breast augmentation, a breast implant is usually used to increase volume and enhance structure. • You feel self-conscious or have a poor self-image related to your breasts.
  • Clothing does not fit well.
  • Your breasts have become smaller and less firm as a result of having children.
  • Your body feels disproportionate.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

The breast augmentation procedure affords the patient in Central Texas many options, from the choice of implant to the type of incision. During your personal consultation with one of our physicians, the two of you will discuss the available options and tailor a treatment plan that is ideal for you.

The type of incision used pertains to the site of the incision, as well as the placement of the breast implant. Depending on what you and the surgeon decide, the incision can be made underneath the breast, inside the armpit, or around the areola. When choosing the type of implant, there are two options: silicone and saline. Each implant has its own inherent risks and benefits, so it is up to you and your surgeon to decide which type is right for you. Another thing to consider when making decisions regarding your breast augmentation is that some placement methods are only applicable for saline implants, as they are able to be inserted through smaller incisions.

The breast augmentation procedure itself is fairly straightforward. The surgeon begins by making an incision in the predetermined location. If a silicone implant has been chosen, the incision will need to be slightly larger than for a saline implant. After the incision has been made, the surgeon will create a pocket for the breast implant to be placed in, either below or above the pectoral muscle. Once the implant is in place and positioned appropriately, the incision is closed using sutures, at which point the recovery process can begin. The average breast augmentation requires one to three hours, and most people are able to return to their usual routines in about one to two weeks.
