Migraine Treatment Central Texas

No Need to Be Paralyzed by Pain

Migraines are characterized by moderate to severe headaches in conjunction with nausea, resulting in localized pain in one half of the head, lasting anywhere from four to seventy-two hours. Migraines make everyday life a constant struggle; with increased sensitivity to light and sound, even the most simple, routine tasks can trigger a migraine. According to the National Institute of Health, approximately 28 million Americans, 75 percent of which are women, suffer from migraines. While there is still no proven cure for migraines, there are migraine treatment options available. At Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, our renowned physicians and unique, subspecialty centers, including the Advanced Facial Surgery Center, allow us to provide migraine treatment options to the people of Central Texas. During a personal consultation, we will evaluate your migraines and determine the proper course of migraine treatment; please contact us today!

Migraine Treatment Options

While there is no definitive cure for migraines, treatment options are available. Our goal at Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery is to help prevent migraines before they start. At our Advanced Facial Surgery Center, we offer several different migraine treatment options for our patients in Central Texas. Depending on the severity and frequency of the migraines, as well as past treatments, the options range from medication to surgery.

  • Prescription Medication: If over the counter medication is no longer providing pain relief, there are prescription pain killers that can help, as well as preventative medication. Cardiovascular drugs, antihistamines, antidepressants, and anti-seizure medication have all proved useful in migraine prevention. Working closely with your physician, the two of you may be able to tailor a medication regimen that is right for you.

  • Migraine Surgery: There are several types of migraine surgery, with advancements constantly being made. Most surgical procedures for the treatment of migraines involve arterial surgery; since the long-held belief is that migraine pain originates from within the branches of the external carotid artery. There are several techniques available for arterial ablation for migraine treatment, including ligation, cryotherapy, or cauterization of the affected blood vessels. Should the migraines be associated with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD), we offer surgical solutions as well.

  • BOTOX® Migraine Treatment: A relatively new treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic has proven to be effective in the treatment of migraines. BOTOX® Cosmetic has been proven effective for relieving pressure at so-called “trigger points” throughout the cranium. The injections are another available alternative to surgery.

Since there is no absolute cure for migraines, in some cases a combination of migraine treatments may be used in an attempt to keep symptoms at bay. Only you and your physician can determine the best course of treatment, so it is important to schedule a personal consultation if you are in need of migraine treatment.
