Eyelid Surgery Central Texas

Reawaken or Rebuild Your Windows to the World

Eyelid surgery, technically known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure which modifies the eyelid, for either cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. With five subspecialty centers, Seton Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery has the unique ability to provide both reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery solutions. For patients in Central Texas, the Advanced Facial Surgery Center offers individualized cosmetic and reconstructive blepharoplasty. During a personal consultation with one of our physicians, we will evaluate your case and determine whether eyelid surgery is right for you. Be sure to contact us today to schedule your personal consultation.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Eyelid surgery, whether cosmetic or reconstructive, can help improve the aesthetics of the eyes and the overall face. Congenital deformities, traumatic injuries, droopy or puffy eyes, and/or bags under the eyes can all be corrected through eyelid surgery at our plastic surgery centers serving Central Texas.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

Cosmetic blepharoplasty is designed to reduce puffiness or loose, sagging skin around the eyes for both men and women. Both the upper and lower eyelids can be treated with cosmetic eyelid surgery. At the Cosmetic Surgery Center, the procedure begins with the surgeon making external incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids, in order to limit visible scarring. The incisions give the surgeon access to the underlying fat, tissue, and muscle. Depending on the case, excess fat and skin can be removed, and the underlying muscles and surrounding tissues can be tightened. In some cases, an alternate technique, called a transconjunctival incision within the eyelid, can be used on the lower eyelid to redistribute or remove excess fat. Once the excess skin and fat have been repositioned or removed, and the underlying muscles and tissues tightened, the incisions are closed using sutures.

Reconstructive Eyelid Surgery

Reconstructive blepharoplasty is designed for male and female patients who need to rebuild or repair their eyelids due to congenital deformity, traumatic injury, disease, or previous surgery. The temporofacial rotation flap, similar to the flap technique utilized in breast reconstruction, can be used in reconstructive eyelid surgery to rebuild the eyelid if there is insufficient tissue present. A personal consultation with one of our physicians at the Advanced Facial Surgery Center will help to determine your treatment options.

The length of time it takes to perform eyelid surgery varies depending on the patient and his or her individual needs. Recovery from eyelid surgery may take somewhat longer than other plastic surgery procedures due to the sensitive nature of the eyes. However, most patients are able to return to their normal routines in a few weeks after eyelid surgery.
